Sometimes you make a decision or set a goal but then your mind start doubting and starts giving all kind of reasons for why you can not have it or why it is impossible to achieve it. You may notice negative self talk like:
I’m not capable
I’m not strong enough
I’m too old
I’m too young
I don’t have enough time
I don’t have enough money
I don’t have enough resources
I don’t have enough knowledge and information
I don’t have any support
I’m not smart enough
I don’t know how to proceed
What if I fail?
These are all excuses and most important thing is that they are YOURS. They are your limiting beliefs because they hold you back. If you hold these beliefs for long time then you will never accomplish your goals. Remember, if you want something badly enough, there is ALWAYS A WAY to get it. Your desire must be stronger than all the obstacles.
If your desire is really strong then obstacles become opportunities. Then obstacles become stepping stones.
Richard Bach said, “Don’t believe what your eyes are telling you. All they show is limitation. Look with your understanding, find out what you already know, and you’ll see the way to fly!”
Visualization is a great technique to overcome any excuse or limiting belief. When you visualize the object of your desire already in your possession and feel good about it then you automatically shift from doubt to belief.
Another way to overcome your limiting beliefs is to re-frame that belief. For example:
- I don’t know how to proceed
How will you know if you don’t proceed?
- I am not smart enough
You are smart enough to drop that belief
- I’m too young
Are you waiting for your old age to achieve that goal?
- I’m too old
Its already late so you must do it right now!
- I’m not capable
But you are capable of holding that limiting belief, aren’t you?
- I’m not strong enough
Working on this goal will make you strong
- I don’t have enough time
Would you give this excuse in life and death situation?
- What if I fail?
Real failure is fear of getting fail
- I don’t have any support?
Do you support others?
- I don’t have enough knowledge and information
You will gather knowledge and information in the process of achieving this goal
See, how you can turn around any excuse or limiting belief simply by changing the structure of that belief. Overcoming limiting belief is just a matter of changing your perception. There are several ways to challenge any limiting belief. Just use your creativity and play around it.
- There is no way
There is always a way where there is no way!
‘No way’ is the ‘Way’
If there is no way then find another way
It seems there is no way because you have not started your journey!
If there is no way then make a way!
What will be the consequences if you hold unto that belief?
How will you achieve that goal if you believe that there is no way?
This is just an example. Take a piece of paper and write down three limiting beliefs and play around them. Find out how you can challenge that belief. Find out how you can change the meaning of that belief. It is great fun to overcome your liming beliefs. Take it as a game.
