Karma is the Sanskrit word for action. Karma means action. It is equivalent to Newton’s law of ‘every action must have a reaction’. When we think, speak or act we initiate a force that will react accordingly. This returning force maybe modified, changed or suspended, but most people will not be able eradicate it.
The law of Karma is also well explained in Shrimad Bhagwat Geeta by Lard Sri Krishna. This law says that nobody can escape the consequences of his actions. If you can not escape from the law of karma then why not use it in your favor?
This law says that, “As you sow, so shall you reap” so why not sow the seeds of love and compassion.
The law of karma is also known as Karmayoga.
Karmayoga literally means “discipline of action.”
Nothing is accomplished without action. But there must be a discipline of action.
Every karma will bring its fruit but we should never get attached to the outcome. Detachment with the outcome is the foundation of karmayoga. When you are focused on the fruit or the outcome then you are focused on the future and you miss the present moment. When you miss the present moment you miss the life, because life is happening in the present moment. And if you miss the life then you will miss the god because life is god. There is no god apart from the life. So karmayoga unites you with the life, with the god.
You must consider all the consequences before entering into any action. This is called awareness. In Hindi it is called Hosh. One should perform every action with awareness then that action itself become meditation and it will liberate you. That state of liberation is called moksha or nirvana.
